Ynthi Pendant

$0.01

A sand-brushed 18k gold disc from whose center polished rays extend outward in all directions — organic, alive, tapering to fine curved tips. At the heart where all light originates, a single gemstone burns. Named for Ynthi, the Inca sun god whose golden image was worshiped across the Andean world, this pendant carries the sun close to the heart.

Description

Ynthi is a name drawn from the Inca tradition, a variation of Inti, the great sun god of the Inca Empire, the most sacred deity in the Andean world and the divine ancestor of the Sapa Inca himself. In Quechua, the language of the Inca, Inti was not merely worshiped, he was present. Every morning his rising was greeted with ceremony and gratitude. Every evening his setting was mourned with reverence. The great temple of Coricancha in Cuzco was built in his honor, its walls lined with sheets of gold that caught and reflected his light throughout the day, so that the building itself became a second sun.

Inti was depicted as a great golden disc with a human face at its center, surrounded by rays that extended in all directions, some straight, some wavy, each one a stream of living light sent outward from the divine source at the heart of all things.

The Ynthi pendant translates that ancient vision directly into precious metal. A round or oval form of sand-brushed 18k gold presents a wide, calm surface, and from the center, a burst of polished gold rays extends outward in all directions, each one organic and alive, tapering to a fine curved tip. At the very center, where all rays converge and all light originates, a single gemstone is bezel-set: a ruby burning with the red of a dawn sky in rose gold, a sapphire holding the deep blue of a high-altitude afternoon in white gold, a diamond blazing with the full undivided light of noon in yellow gold.

The design is solar in the most literal sense, a sun made of gold, with light made of stone at its heart. In every version, the contrast between the matte ground and the polished rays creates a depth that shifts with every movement, the pendant alive in a way that flat surfaces never are.

To wear Ynthi is to carry the sun close to the heart, and to walk in its light wherever you go.
