Dhurgany Ring
$0.01
A wide band of polished 18k gold interrupted at intervals by matte oval and rounded rectangular patches, each one a quiet presence held against the brilliance that surrounds it. Named for Dhurgany, a variation of Durga the Hindu warrior goddess born from the combined light of all the gods, this ring carries contained power on the finger. Each order includes one ring. The Dhurgany ring is named for Durga, one of the most powerful and beloved goddesses in the Hindu tradition, and one of the most complex.
Durga is the great warrior goddess, born from the combined fury of all the gods when no single deity possessed the strength to defeat the demon Mahishasura, who had been granted immunity from any male being. She emerged fully formed from a burst of divine light, armed with the weapons of every god who had contributed to her creation, a trident from Shiva, a discus from Vishnu, a bow from Vayu, a thunderbolt from Indra. Ten arms, each one carrying a weapon or a symbol, and a face of absolute serene composure: the most dangerous kind of strength, because it does not need to announce itself.
But Durga is not merely a goddess of war. She is Shakti, the primordial feminine energy that underlies all of creation. She is the force through which the universe came into being and the force that holds it together. Her nine forms, celebrated in the festival of Navaratri, encompass everything from the fierce destroyer Kali to the gentle nurturer Shailaputri. She contains multitudes, and she contains them with complete equanimity.
The Dhurgany ring carries that quality of contained power in its design. A wide, substantial band of 18k gold wraps the finger with calm authority — its outer surface polished to a deep, reflective shine, its body interrupted at intervals by matte oval and rounded rectangular patches that break the surface the way Durga’s many forms break the single image of the goddess: each one distinct, each one part of the same great whole. The matte areas are not decorations. They are presences, quiet, deliberate, holding their own light against the brilliance of the polished gold that frames them.
In yellow gold the Dhurgany ring is sovereign and ancient, the goddess at the height of her power. In rose gold it is warm and fierce, Durga as protector — the warmth of something that would destroy anything that threatened what it loves. In white gold it is cool and composed, the goddess in her aspect of pure Shakti — energy without form, power without decoration.
Each order includes one ring. Images show available color combinations.
