In Greek mythology, the sea-goat was born in the moment the god Pan leapt into the Nile to escape the monstrous Titan Typhon. His lower half, submerged in the river, transformed into the tail of a fish, while his upper half remained a goat — two natures fused in a single body by the urgency of survival. Zeus, admiring Pan’s resourcefulness, placed that composite form among the stars as a constellation.
