Vesper Earrings

Vesper is the Latin name for the evening star, the planet Venus as she appears at dusk, the first light to emerge in the darkening sky, the one that stays longest after the sun has gone. In the ancient world, Vesper was watched with reverence: she was the signal that the day’s work was done, that the world was passing into a different kind of time, that the hour of reflection and rest had arrived. She was not dramatic, she did not blaze or streak across the sky. She simply appeared, steady and luminous, and remained.

The Vesper earrings carry that quality of quiet permanence. A large oval of sand-brushed 18k gold, wide, flat, serene, presents an almost uninterrupted matte surface to the world. The gold is hushed, absorbed, utterly still. And then, near the lower center of each earring, a small cluster of polished granules emerges from the surface: seven spheres arranged in an organic grouping, like a distant constellation seen through a clear night sky, or the Pleiades rising at the edge of evening.

The granules are the only polished element on the entire surface, and that restraint makes them extraordinary.
