Bar drop earrings in 18k gold with scroll engravings and a central gemstone, their form inspired by the Vermilion Bird — the guardian of the south in Chinese cosmology, the divine creature of fire and summer.

Made to order.

Description

Veryon Earrings take their name and their scroll from the Vermilion Bird — Zhu Que in Chinese, one of the Four Symbols that govern the cardinal directions of Chinese cosmology.

The Four Symbols are among the most ancient and enduring concepts in Chinese celestial thought: the Azure Dragon of the East governs wood and spring; the White Tiger of the West governs metal and autumn; the Black Tortoise of the North governs water and winter; and the Vermilion Bird of the South governs fire and summer.

Together they describe the full cycle of direction, element, and season, holding the cosmos in its four-part symmetry. As a result, the Vermilion Bird is not merely a decorative element in Chinese art but a cosmological function: the fire of the south, the warmth of summer, the quality of blazing directed energy that belongs to its quadrant of the universe.

Furthermore, the Vermilion Bird is often confused with the Fenghuang — the Chinese phoenix — but they are distinct: the Fenghuang represents the union of yin and yang, while the Vermilion Bird is a specific cosmological deity.

Its form in traditional Chinese art is that of a bird surrounded by flame, its feathers carrying the scroll patterns of fire and cloud, the ruyi patterns that describe divine creative movement in Chinese visual language.

The Veryon Earrings carry those scroll patterns: the engraved surface of the bar as the Vermilion Bird’s feathers in their traditional scroll form, the gemstone as the concentrated fire at the bird’s heart.

The Design of the Veryon Earrings

The Veryon Earrings translate the Vermilion Bird’s fire and scroll into 18k gold. Each piece is a bar drop whose surface carries scroll engravings — the curved, flowing patterns of Chinese sacred art that describe fire, cloud, and divine movement.

Within the scroll’s form, a gemstone is set: a diamond, ruby, or sapphire that reads as the concentrated point of the Vermilion Bird’s fire at the centre of its feathered form. As a result, the Veryon Earrings carry both the architectural quality of the bar and the living quality of the scroll: structure and movement, form and fire.

The Scroll of the South

The scroll engravings with their central gemstone are the soul of this design. Specifically, the scroll patterns create a surface of dynamic movement on the flat face of the bar — the curves flowing in their traditional rhythm, describing fire and cloud and divine creative energy.

Worn as drops, the Veryon Earrings descend from the ear with the composed authority of forms drawn from a three-thousand-year tradition.

Furthermore, the gemstone at the centre of the scroll work catches the light with the intensity of the Vermilion Bird’s fire — the concentrated point of the south’s directional power within the engraved bar form. In this way, the Veryon Earrings carry the quality of the Vermilion Bird: the fire that has direction, the energy that belongs to its quadrant.

Veryon Earrings in 18k Gold and Colored Gemstones

In rose gold the scroll bar glows with warmth, set with a ruby that burns at its centre like the Vermilion Bird at the height of summer. In white gold the Veryon Earrings turn cool and precise, the scroll reading with the clarity of line in pale light, a sapphire at the centre.

In yellow gold they radiate with full golden intensity, a brilliant diamond at the heart of the scroll — the fire of the south in its most vivid expression. Whichever stone you choose, the scroll holds its pattern.

Craftsmanship and 3D Precision

Each Veryon earring was developed in 3D modeling software and brought to life through precision 3D printing and meticulous hand-finishing.

The scroll-engraved bar demands digital modeling: the scroll patterns must flow with the naturalistic rhythm of traditional Chinese sacred art, the gemstone setting must hold the stone at exactly the focal point of the engraved surface, and the two earrings of a pair must mirror each other exactly. Hand-finishing polishes every surface.

This is the precision that only the Friszman MD process can deliver reliably.

A Made-to-Order Piece
