Description

Here’s the full ~600 word description:

Djed earrings take their name from the Djed pillar — one of the most ancient symbols in Egyptian mythology. The Djed is a vertical column with horizontal rings near its crown.

As a hieroglyph, it means stability and endurance. In Egyptian religion, it represented something deeper: the backbone of Osiris, the god of resurrection. Each year, the pharaoh performed a ceremony called ‘raising the Djed.’ He lifted the pillar upright, symbolizing the rebirth of Osiris and the stability of the kingdom.

Because of this, the Djed was placed as an amulet on the spines of the dead. The hope was that it would allow the deceased to rise again. It was the most widely used protective symbol in ancient Egypt.

However, it is also a symbol of beauty: carved in faience, inlaid with gold, placed at the hearts of temples. The Djed stands for everything that endures.

The Design of the Djed Earrings

The Djed earrings translate that ancient symbol into 18k gold. Each piece is a sculptural drop that descends from the ear in a spiral form. The stacked rings of the Djed pillar unwind into a continuous helix as they fall.

As a result, the earring reads as both pillar and release: stability given the form of a descent, endurance translated into motion.

The surface catches light along the spiral as the earring moves. Therefore, the Djed earrings seem to turn and breathe with the wearer. This is fitting for a symbol whose meaning is resurrection — not stillness, but the return to life.

Endurance in Motion

The contrast between the Djed’s meaning and the spiral form of this design is the soul of the piece. Specifically, the helix captures the idea that endurance is active, not passive. Stability is not the absence of movement; it is the ability to remain oneself while everything else changes.

Worn as drops, the Djed earrings fall and sway gently against the neck. Furthermore, their spiral form catches light from every angle as the head turns.

No two moments read the same way. They are sculptural without being heavy. They are present without being loud. In this way, they carry the character of the Djed itself — constant, quiet, and unmistakably there.

Djed Earrings in 18k Gold

In rose gold the spiral glows with warmth. The rings read rich and ancient, like the gold applied to the walls of an Egyptian tomb. In white gold the Djed earrings turn cool and bright, the helix catching light with clean precision. In yellow gold they radiate with full golden intensity — the most direct echo of the sacred metal that ancient Egypt valued above all others.

Whichever metal you choose, the Djed earrings hold their form and carry their meaning.

Craftsmanship and 3D Precision

Each Djed earring was developed in 3D modeling software and brought to life through precision 3D printing and meticulous hand-finishing in São Paulo, Brazil.

The spiral form demands digital modeling. Every ring of the helix must descend at a consistent pitch so the form reads as continuous and deliberate. Additionally, the two earrings of a pair must mirror one another exactly, so the spiral turns the same way on both sides.

Hand-finishing then polishes the gold to a high shine along the spiral’s length. This is the precision that the Friszman MD process delivers reliably.

A Made-to-Order Piece

Like every Friszman MD creation, the Djed earrings are made to order and hand-finished in 18k gold. Each piece connects the wearer to one of the oldest traditions in the world.
