Blade stud earrings in 18k gold with an all-over Celtic knotwork surface, their design drawn from the La Tene tradition of the European Iron Age. The Ransse Earrings carry the continuous interlace of Celtic art on a wearable blade.
Made to order.
Ransse Earrings draw their name and their surface from the La Tène tradition — the flowering of Celtic art that emerged in central Europe around 450 BCE and spread with the Celtic peoples across the continent.
La Tène art is defined by its quality of continuous motion: spirals that flow into other spirals without stopping, interlaced lines that weave over and under each other without beginning or end, trumpet curves and tendril forms that transform into faces and animals and back again without ever fully resolving into either.
As a result, La Tène art is the visual expression of a particular worldview: one in which nothing is fixed, everything transforms, and the boundary between one thing and another is always in motion.
Furthermore, the knotwork — the interlaced pattern of lines that cross and recross in a consistent over-under rhythm — carries its own specific meaning in the Celtic world: the knot is a form that cannot be untied without destroying it, a binding that is also a form of protection.
Celtic warriors decorated their shields and helmets with knotwork for the same reason they wore torques not merely for beauty but for the protective quality of forms that held together and could not be broken.
The Ransse Earrings carry that knotwork across the entire surface of a blade stud: the continuous interlace of the La Tène tradition made wearable in gold.
The Design of the Ransse Earrings
The Ransse Earrings translate the La Tène surface into 18k gold blade studs. Each piece is an elongated blade form whose entire surface is covered in Celtic knotwork: the continuous interlaced pattern distributed across the blade so that no area is left plain, the knot running from edge to edge as it would on an Iron Age shield or helmet.
As a result, the Ransse Earrings read as both minimal in form and maximally rich in surface: a clean shape carrying a total pattern.
The Continuous Knot
The all-over knotwork surface is the soul of this design. Specifically, the continuous interlace creates a surface that rewards looking at closely: from a distance the blade reads as textured, on close inspection it reveals the precise over-under rhythm of the knotwork in every detail.
Worn as studs, the Ransse Earrings sit close to the ear with the composed presence of objects that have been worked.
Furthermore, the knotwork catches the light at the raised crossing points while the recessed channels hold shadow, creating a constant interplay of bright and dark across the blade surface. In this way, the Ransse Earrings carry the quality of La Tène art itself: precision that is also alive.
Ransse Earrings in 18k Gold
In rose gold the knotwork blade glows with warmth, the interlaced surface reading rich and intricate, like Celtic metalwork seen in firelight. In white gold the Ransse Earrings turn cool and precise, the knotwork reading with the clarity of incised metalwork in daylight.
In yellow gold they radiate with full golden intensity — the most direct echo of the Celtic goldsmiths who worked the La Tène style in yellow gold and understood that the knot was most powerful in the most precious material.
Whichever metal you choose, the interlace holds.
Craftsmanship and 3D Precision
Each Ransse earring was developed in 3D modeling software and brought to life through precision 3D printing and meticulous hand-finishing. The all-over knotwork demands digital modeling: the interlace must be consistent in depth and spacing across the entire blade surface, the over-under rhythm must be maintained without interruption, and the two earrings of a pair must carry matching patterns.
Hand-finishing polishes the raised crossing points to a high shine. This is the precision that only the Friszman MD process can deliver reliably.
A Made-to-Order Piece
