Pelee Rings
$0.01
A channel-set gemstone ring in 18k gold, its sculpted band carrying a ruby, sapphire, or diamond in the channel of a shaped gold form. The Pelee Ring is named for Pele, the Hawaiian goddess who builds islands from fire.
Made to order.
Pelee Ring takes its name from Pele — the Hawaiian goddess of volcanoes, fire, lightning, and the creative destruction that has shaped the Pacific for millions of years. Pele is not merely a deity of destruction: she is a creator.
Every volcanic eruption that flows from Kilauea on the Big Island of Hawaii is an act of Pele’s creation — new land forming at the edge of the lava flow, the earth extending itself into the sea.
The Hawaiian Islands themselves are Pele’s work: each island a shield volcano that grew from the ocean floor over millions of years, pushed up by the same volcanic hotspot that Pele inhabits today.
As a result, to live in Hawaii is to live on the body of Pele’s creation — to stand on ground that did not exist before her fire made it.
Furthermore, Pele’s tradition is one of the richest in Hawaiian mythology: her loves and conflicts, her journeys between islands, her creation of the landscape through battle and fire, and her capacity to appear as a young woman or an old woman to test the hospitality of those she meets.
The Pelee Ring carries the form of that volcanic creation: the channel cut through the gold like a lava channel cut through rock, the gemstone held at the heart of the form like the concentrated heat at the centre of the earth.
The Design of the Pelee Ring
The Pelee Ring translates Pele’s volcanic creation into 18k gold. The band is sculpted in a form that rises and falls, its surface shaped like the terrain that lava creates when it moves and cools: not flat but dimensional, not uniform but purposeful.
A channel is cut through the gold, and within that channel a gemstone is set — a ruby, sapphire, or diamond held in the precision groove of the sculpted band, the stone reading like concentrated fire within the shaped metal.
As a result, the Pelee Ring carries both the energy of volcanic creation and its essential stillness: the moment after the lava has stopped moving and the new land is revealed.
Fire in the Channel
The channel-set gemstone is the soul of this design. Specifically, the channel holds the stone with a precision that makes the gem read as part of the band’s structure rather than something added to it — the way fire is not added to lava but is its essential nature.
Worn on the hand, the Pelee Ring carries the sculptural presence of a form shaped by an elemental force.
Furthermore, the channel cut into the gold creates a linear emphasis that runs around the band, directing the eye along the path of the stone, the way a lava channel directs the eye along the path of the flow. In this way, the ring carries Pele’s essential quality: creation through directed energy, beauty that comes from the application of tremendous force.
Pelee Ring in 18k Gold and Coloured Stones
In rose gold the sculpted band glows with warmth, the channel-set ruby reading at its heart like lava in a deep channel at night. In white gold the Pelee Ring turns cool and precise, a sapphire reading within the channel with the blue clarity of ocean water seen from a volcanic shore.
In yellow gold it radiates with full golden intensity, a brilliant diamond channel-set in the sculpted form — the most vivid possible light at the heart of the most vivid possible creation. Whichever stone you choose, the channel holds its fire.
Craftsmanship and 3D Precision
Each Pelee Ring was developed in 3D modeling software and brought to life through precision 3D printing and meticulous hand-finishing. The channel-set sculpted band demands digital modeling: the channel must be cut to the exact width of the stone, the band must be shaped with consistency so the sculptural form reads as intentional, and the ring must sit comfortably for daily wear despite its dimensional form.
Hand-finishing polishes every surface to a high shine. This is the precision that only the Friszman MD process can deliver reliably.
