Michael Pendants

Michael pendants draw their name and form from one of the most universally revered figures across three of the world’s great monotheistic traditions: the Archangel Michael, whose name in Hebrew, מִיכָאֵל (Mikhael), means “Who is like God?”. The question embedded in his name is simultaneously a statement of awe and a declaration of the incomparability of the divine. Michael is not merely a messenger but a warrior: the commander of the heavenly armies, the being who led the celestial forces against Lucifer in the primordial conflict whose outcome defined the structure of the spiritual cosmos.

In the Hebrew Bible, Michael appears in the Book of Daniel as the great prince who stands guard over the people of Israel, a protector of extraordinary power whose interventions in human affairs are recorded across centuries of sacred text. In the Book of Revelation, it is Michael who leads the war in heaven against the dragon, casting the ancient serpent and his angels out of the celestial realm. He is being responsible for rainfall, vegetation, and the sustenance of all living things, his wings so vast that they span from east to west. In Ethiopian Christian tradition, the feast of Saint Michael (Mikael) is celebrated monthly, making him the most frequently honored sacred figure in the Ethiopian liturgical calendar.

The form of the Michael pendant is the six-pointed star, one of the most ancient and cross-culturally charged geometric forms in human sacred art. In Jewish tradition it is the Magen David, the Shield of David, protector of Israel, whose six points have been associated with the six directions of space (north, south, east, west, up, down) and with the six days of creation. In Hindu yantra tradition, the shatkona, two interlocking equilateral triangles, represents the union of Shiva and Shakti, of masculine and feminine creative principles, of fire and water, of heaven and earth. In Solomonic magical tradition, the Seal of Solomon, a six-pointed star, was believed to be engraved on the ring that gave the biblical king his legendary power over spirits and the natural world.
