Meropee Pendant
$0.01
A geometric column pendant in 18k gold, its architectural form inspired by Merope — the quietest of the Pleiades, at the center of two great Greek myths, who shines with a light that rewards the patient eye. The Meropee pendant is for those who understand the geometry of understated beauty.
Made to order in rose, white, or yellow gold.
Meropee pendant draws its name from Merope — the quietest of the seven Pleiades, the star cluster that ancient farmers planted by, that sailors steered by, that Greek poets called the seven daughters of Atlas. Merope is the seventh, the dimmest, the one who looks away.
She married Sisyphus, mortal king of Corinth — the cleverest man who ever lived and the one the gods condemned to push his stone uphill for eternity. As a result, Merope alone of all her sisters took a mortal husband, and she alone is said to have dimmed her light in the sky, either from shame or from sorrow or from the private decision to give what she gave without needing to be seen giving it.
However, her myth has another face. In a second telling, Merope was the daughter of King Oenopion of the island of Chios, and Orion — the great hunter, the most beautiful man alive — came to her island and pursued her.
Furthermore, it was for her sake that Orion was blinded: her father’s act against the man who would not stop. She is therefore a woman at the centre of two great myths, present in both but carrying her meaning quietly, her constellation burning with a light that requires the patient eye to find it. The Meropee pendant holds that quality: the beauty of the considered form, the geometry of something that does not announce itself.
The Design of the Meropee Pendant
The Meropee pendant translates the architectural quality of the constellation into 18k gold. The form is a column — a clean geometric pendant that descends in a precise vertical line from the chain, its proportions calibrated like a pillar of light.
The design evokes both the architectural column of the classical world and the appearance of the Pleiades themselves: seven points of light standing close together, the column form their vertical reading from below.
As a result, the Meropee pendant reads as both celestial map and miniature monument. Therefore, it is a pendant about the beauty of things that are structurally exact.
The Column of Light
The geometric column form is the soul of this design. Specifically, the clean edges and considered proportions give the pendant a presence that is immediate and composed — something that reads as resolved at every scale.
Worn close to the body, the Meropee pendant catches the light along its edges as the wearer moves, so the form seems to shift between solid and luminous. Furthermore, from the front it reads as a flat rectangle; from the side the full depth of the column is revealed.
In this way, the pendant carries Merope’s quality: more there than it first appears, more interesting the longer you look at it.
Meropee Pendant in 18k Gold
In rose gold the column glows with warmth, its clean surfaces reading rich and intimate, like one of the Pleiades seen through warm evening air. In white gold the Meropee pendant turns cool and celestial, the geometric form catching light with the precision of a star seen on a still night.
In yellow gold it radiates with full golden intensity — Merope at her most present, the quiet star choosing to be seen. Whichever metal you choose, the column holds its form.
Craftsmanship and 3D Precision
Each Meropee pendant was developed in 3D modeling software and brought to life through precision 3D printing and meticulous hand-finishing. The column form demands digital modeling: every edge must be clean and consistent, the proportions must be exact so the pendant reads as architecturally resolved, and the piece must hang true so the column face presents squarely when worn.
Hand-finishing then polishes every surface to a mirror shine. This is the precision that only the Friszman MD process can deliver reliably.
A Made-to-Order Piece
Like every Friszman MD creation, the Meropee pendant is made to order and hand-finished in 18k gold.
