ThuanThien Earrings

In the fifteenth century, Vietnam was under occupation. For twenty years, the Ming Dynasty had ruled over a land that refused, in its deepest places, to be ruled. It was into this moment that a man named Lê Lợi emerged, not yet a king, not yet a liberator, but carrying within him something that would become both.

According to legend, Lê Lợi found a sword unlike any other. Its blade had been discovered at the bottom of a lake, glowing beneath the water with a light that had no ordinary source. Its hilt came to him separately, brought by an eagle that dropped it at his feet in the forest as if delivered by the sky itself. When the two pieces met, they became one, and the sword was complete. He named it Thuận Thiên: Following Heaven’s Will.

With Thuận Thiên in his hand, Lê Lợi fought for a decade against an empire. And he won. He drove the Ming forces from Vietnamese soil, united a fractured nation, and founded the Lê Dynasty, one of the longest and most celebrated in Vietnamese history. The sword had not made him powerful. It had revealed the power that Heaven had already placed within him.

But the story does not end with victory. It ends with return.

After ascending the throne, Lê Lợi was rowing on a lake in what is now Hanoi when a great golden turtle rose from the depths of the water. The turtle spoke and asked for the sword to be returned, its work in the mortal world was complete. Lê Lợi drew Thuận Thiên one final time and surrendered it to the waters. The lake has been known ever since as Hồ Hoàn Kiếm, the Lake of the Returned Sword. It remains one of Hanoi’s most sacred places, a still body of water at the heart of a great city, holding the memory of a sword that changed history and then chose to disappear.

The ThuanThien earrings carry the spirit of that legend in their form. Two slender arms of matte 18k gold rise from a single curved base, open, upward-reaching, like a blade raised to the sky or a hand open in offering. At the base of each curve, cradled in the gold with quiet precision, a single precious stone rests: ruby burning deep in rose gold, sapphire cool and sovereign in white gold, diamond luminous and clear in yellow gold. Three stones, three different expressions of the same extraordinary light.

The design is minimal by intention. Thuận Thiên was not an ornate sword, it was a perfect one. Its power came not from decoration but from purpose, from the absolute rightness of its form. These earrings follow that same principle. Nothing added that does not need to be there. Everything present exactly where it should be.

Long, light, and quietly commanding, a piece that moves with the wearer and catches the light at the curve, exactly where the stone waits.

Each ThuanThien earring is individually designed using 3D software and hand-finished in São Paulo, Brazil. Post fastening. Made entirely to order, available in 18k rose gold with ruby, 18k white gold with sapphire, and 18k yellow gold with diamond.
