Selenee Ring

$0.01

A wide band ring in 18k gold with flowing lunar channels across its surface, inspired by Selene, the Greek Titaness of the Moon.

Made to order in single metal or two-tone. Priced individually.

Description

Selenee Ring takes its name from Selene — the Greek Titaness who is the moon itself, distinct from Artemis the huntress who is associated with the moon and Hecate who rules its dark phase. Selene is the moon in its most direct sense: the luminous body that drives its silver chariot from east to west across the night sky, her pale light falling on everything below with equal impartiality.

She is the daughter of the Titans Hyperion and Theia, sister of Helios the sun and Eos the dawn — the three children of light who govern the day in its three phases. As a result, Selene’s light is not warm but cool, not searching but present: she illuminates without distinguishing.

Furthermore, Selene’s most famous myth is her love for Endymion — the shepherd of extraordinary beauty whom she found sleeping on a hillside and loved so completely that she asked Zeus to grant him eternal sleep, so she could look at him forever.

The Selenee Ring carries the form of Selene’s light made visible on the ground: the lunar channels, the flowing lines of moonlight crossing the surface of the wide band as moonlight crosses terrain.

The Design of the Selenee Ring

The Selenee Ring translates Selene’s moonlight into 18k gold. The band is wide — substantial on the finger, carrying weight and presence — and its surface is carved with flowing lunar channels: long curved grooves that cross the band in the manner of moonlight moving across a landscape, each channel describing a particular path of reflected light.

The two-tone version adds a second metal to the channels, so the paths of light read in contrast to the band itself. As a result, the Selenee Ring reads as both jewellery and topography: the moon’s terrain mapped in gold.

The Lunar Channels

The flowing channels across the wide band are the soul of this design. Specifically, the channels create a surface of direction and movement on a band that would otherwise read as static — the wide gold surface given a sense of flow, the way moonlight gives a sense of direction to a landscape at night.

Worn on the finger, the Selenee Ring sits with the substantial authority of a band that has been deliberately worked. Furthermore, in the two-tone version, the contrast between the metals in the channels and the surrounding band creates a surface of light and depth, the channels reading as filled with a different quality of light.

In this way, the Selenee Ring carries Selene’s essential quality: the impartial illumination that reveals everything as it actually is.

Selenee Ring in 18k Gold

In rose gold the flowing channels glow with warmth, the lunar paths reading rich across the wide surface. In white gold the Selenee Ring turns cool and luminous, the channels reading with the precision of moonlight on still water.

In yellow gold it radiates with full golden intensity, the lunar channels reading bold and vivid across the wide band. In two-tone versions, warm and cool metals contrast in the channels and band, carrying both the silver of Selene’s chariot and the gold of her brother Helios’s sun.

Craftsmanship and 3D Precision

Each Selenee Ring was developed in 3D modeling software and brought to life through precision 3D printing and meticulous hand-finishing. The wide band with flowing channels demands digital modeling: every channel must be cut to a consistent depth and width so the surface reads as deliberately worked, the channels must flow across the band with a natural, non-mechanical rhythm, and the ring must be available in precise sizes.

Hand-finishing polishes both the channel surfaces and the surrounding band. This is the precision that only the Friszman MD process can deliver reliably.

A Made-to-Order Piece

Like every Friszman MD creation, the Selenee Ring is made to order and hand-finished in 18k gold.
