$0.01
Granulated oval disc earrings in 18k gold, each set with a ruby, sapphire, or diamond at the center. The Landveyn earrings are named for the Landvættir — the land spirits of Norse belief who inhabit specific places and guard them across centuries.
Made to order in rose, white, or yellow gold.
Landveyn earrings take their name from the Landvættir — the land spirits of Norse belief, invisible guardians who lived in specific places in the natural world. In Old Norse cosmology, the world was not empty space waiting to be named and used.
Every significant feature of the landscape — a particular valley, a river bend, a large stone, a grove of trees — had its own vættr, its own spirit. As a result, the land itself was understood as inhabited.
To disturb a place without acknowledgement was to disturb its guardian. Farmers made offerings to the Landvættir before ploughing. Travelers sought their goodwill before crossing unfamiliar land.
Furthermore, the Landvættir were the protectors of an entire people: Iceland’s four great land spirits — the dragon, the eagle, the bull, and the serpent — were said to guard each quarter of the island. They appear on Iceland’s coat of arms to this day. The Landveyn earrings are named for that idea: the sacred quality of specific places, the understanding that the ground beneath your feet has a presence of its own.
The Design of the Landveyn Earrings
The Landveyn earrings translate the quality of the land spirit into 18k gold. Each piece is an oval disc — a clean, grounded form that sits with quiet presence against the neck. The surface carries a granulation texture — fine spheres of gold distributed across the disc like the grain of the earth itself, or like seeds pressed into sacred ground.
At the center, a gemstone is set: a ruby, sapphire, or diamond that reads as the eye of the spirit, the concentrated point of awareness at the heart of the place. As a result, the Landveyn earrings read as both natural and watchful, like the landscape they honor.
The Watching Land
The granulated oval disc is the soul of this design. Specifically, the textured surface gives each earring a depth that changes as the light shifts — warm in one light, complex in another, like the surface of an ancient stone in changing weather.
The gemstone at the center holds its color steadily within the textured gold, the way the spirit of a place holds its nature regardless of what passes through. Worn as drops, the Landveyn earrings frame the face with a grounded presence.
Furthermore, the oval form sits naturally against the neck, neither sharp nor circular but something between, like the specific shape of a real place. In this way, they carry the Landvættir’s essential quality: the sense that something is here, in this particular spot, and has been for a long time.
Landveyn Earrings in 18k Gold and Gemstones
In rose gold the granulated disc glows with warmth, set with a ruby that burns at its center like a fire in a valley at dusk. In white gold the Landveyn earrings turn cool and precise, a sapphire reading at the heart of the disc like still water in a sacred spring.
In yellow gold they radiate with full golden intensity, a brilliant diamond held at the center like light on an open hillside at midday. Each pairing gives the same grounded form a different quality of place.
Craftsmanship and 3D Precision
Each Landveyn earring was developed in 3D modeling software and brought to life through precision 3D printing and meticulous hand-finishing. The granulated oval disc demands digital modeling: every sphere must be placed consistently across the disc surface, the gemstone setting must hold the stone at the correct depth within the granulation, and the two earrings of a pair must mirror each other exactly.
Additionally, the disc must hang at the correct angle so the face presents outward when worn. Hand-finishing then polishes the raised surfaces to a high shine. This is the precision that only the Friszman MD process can deliver reliably.
A Made-to-Order Piece
Like every Friszman MD creation, the Landveyn earrings are made to order and hand-finished in 18k gold.
