Meropee Earrings
$0.01
Long architectural bar earrings in 18k gold, their composed minimal form inspired by Merope — the dimmest of the Pleiades, who shines quietly while her sisters blaze. The Meropee earrings carry the beauty of understatement: the presence that rewards looking.
Made to order in rose, white, or yellow gold.
Meropee earrings take their name from Merope — the dimmest of the seven Pleiades, the cluster of stars that has guided sailors, farmers, and travellers across the Northern Hemisphere for thousands of years. The Pleiades were the seven daughters of Atlas and Pleione, and in Greek mythology they were transformed into stars to save them from the hunter Orion, who pursued them across the sky.
However, only six of the sisters shine clearly. Merope is the seventh, and she shines more faintly than all the others. As a result, she is sometimes called the Lost Pleiad. The reason given in the myths is that Merope alone married a mortal — the cunning Sisyphus, king of Corinth — while her sisters took gods as their husbands.
Furthermore, she chose to veil her light in shame, or in sorrow, or perhaps in loyalty to a love that could not last. The Meropee earrings are named for her quality: the beauty of the one who shines quietly, who is still there when you know how to look, whose dimness is not weakness but a different kind of presence.
The Design of the Meropee Earrings
The Meropee earrings translate Merope’s quality into 18k gold. Each piece is a long architectural bar — a clean, slender vertical form that descends from the ear with composed restraint. The design is minimal and precise: no ornament, no excess, just the bar itself in its pure form.
As a result, the Meropee earrings carry their presence through proportion and finish rather than decoration. Therefore, they are earrings for those who understand the particular quality of understatement: the choice to say less, more precisely.
The Quiet Star
The long architectural bar is the soul of this design. Specifically, the bar’s proportions are calibrated so it reads as both slender and substantial — present without being heavy, composed without being plain. Worn as long drops, the Meropee earrings descend from the ear in a clean vertical line that frames the face without overwhelming it.
Furthermore, the flat surfaces of the bar catch the light in different ways as the head turns, so the earrings seem to shift between brilliant and muted, the way Merope’s star shifts between visible and hidden depending on where you stand and how well your eye has adjusted to the dark. In this way, they carry Merope’s essential quality: the presence that rewards looking.
Meropee Earrings in 18k Gold
In rose gold the bar glows with warmth, its clean surfaces reading intimate and close, like the soft light of the dimmest Pleiad seen through clear air. In white gold the Meropee earrings turn cool and precise, the architectural form catching light with the clarity of starlight on a still night.
In yellow gold they radiate with full golden intensity — Merope at her most vivid, the quiet star choosing to shine. Whichever metal you choose, the bar holds its composed presence.
Craftsmanship and 3D Precision
Each Meropee earring was developed in 3D modeling software and brought to life through precision 3D printing and meticulous hand-finishing. The long architectural bar demands perfection in its simplicity: the surfaces must be flat and even, the proportions must be exact so the bar reads as resolved rather than arbitrary, and the two earrings of a pair must mirror each other exactly in weight and dimension.
Additionally, the bar must hang true so the flat face presents squarely when worn. Hand-finishing then polishes every surface to a mirror shine. This is the precision that only the Friszman MD process can deliver reliably.
A Made-to-Order Piece
Like every Friszman MD creation, the Meropee earrings are made to order and hand-finished in 18k gold.
